.We are open for 2026 through to October . Please ensure this website is read before contact as we are a working farm  with no office. We expect that you know the prices set below and have read the REQUIRED INFORMATION & IMPORTANT INFORMATION SECTIONS . Groups of 6 or above MUST pre book  and emails are the best way to book for ALL customers- so there is confirmation and proof of your booking. As the owners we always try and fit people in without a booking but we are not obliged to (those on foot hiking in are guaranteed space). We do turn people away for various reasons ,when we are busy enough or if thery are coming in larger vans or tents-& for  other reasons on that day. This is our prerogative & should we decline by email or in person we have no time  for argument or abuse  from  a distinct minority. We do not suffer those who take us for fools.                                                                                                            The site remains a quiet and relaxed destination at all times . Especially so from 10.30 PM please adhere to this or select another site.

FEES ARE PAID ON ARRIVAL IN CASH .

BEAUTIFUL

CAMPING SITE

IN THE HEART OF THE ENGLISH LAKE DISTRICT

Important Information

Please read the following information before booking/ arriving: For bank holidays please see above. For all prices also see above for up to date information.

Chapel House Farm is a laid-back campsite in keeping with the ‘get away from it all’ location.
As a result we do not tolerate drunk and disorderly customers. (which results in loud, abusive, aggressive and disruptive behaviour.) You will be asked to leave. It is a family site and children are welcome a level of noise comes with this . CAMPFIRES ARE ONLY ALLOWED OFF THE GROUND THIS IS A GREENFIELD SITE AND WE PROTECT IT. PLEASE DO NOT SCORCH THE EARTH .

PAYMENT IS ON ARRIVAL WITH CASH OR A CHEQUE FOR GROUPS IF PREFERRED . WE CAN NOT TAKE CARD THERE IS NO FACILITY . FIRM BOOKINGS ARE MADE OVER EMAIL .WE MAY GIVE A BOOKING OVER THE PHONE WITH A REFERENCE ON ARRIVAL IF IT IS SHORT NOTICE. PLEASE NOTE MAKING A BOOKING DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE IT . IF THE REVISED BOOKING IS ONE WE WOULD NOT HAVE ORIGINALLY SAID YES TO THE BOOKING WILL BE CANCELLED.  We do not take money beforehand and have no obligation to move things around. Please give three days notice if you can’t make it as a courtesy.

Visitors trust that the site will allow a good nights sleep . That said children run around freely . There are young D of E groups frequently throughout the season . THIS IS NOT A RIGID SITE OR A SILENT SITE BUT IT IS NOT A PARTY SITE. SO if you are a group or individual wanting to stay up drinking- playing music- You would be better advised to look elsewhere with less restrictions. WE ARE QUIET FROM 10.30PM(that does not mean you can be too noisy until 10.30PM) With no anti social behaviour tolerated at all at any time during a stay.

Late Arrivals/ Early Departures & GROUPS ******
The site is quiet from 10:30pm, so out of respect for our other guests, we don’t like late arrivals as it often causes disruption. Please arrive by 8pm or 9,30pm on a Friday if you need some leeway please mail ahead . THE GATE WILL BE LOCKED ON TO THE FIELD ONCE THE SITE IS DARK SO VANS AND LARGER TENTS SHOULD ARRIVE BEFORE THIS. Read on for SATURDAYS.

SATURDAY arrival times are set much earlier depending on how busy we are . Please ask . We still have some first come first served spots on a Saturday but they can fill up quickly in peak times . We can not give bookings arriving later on a Saturday peak season unless you are on foot.

Likewise, for those leaving early, cars ought not to be brought on site to pack up not before 9am please.

We have worked very hard to create a peaceful and pleasant camping experience, please respect the other campers at all times . GROUPS of six or above must have a firm booking . Please do not congregate with separate bookings you will be asked to leave . Likewise do not put our details on a group website (walking, climbing etc) and have members book separately then meet up .WE DO NOT ALLOW THIS . It is our site and a group must have permission to camp after we have established through  questions if it is the right group for the site and the customer. There should be one designated person who books and provides us with the information needed.PLEASE DO NOT MISREAD OR MISQUOTE THIS, IF YOU ARE 5 PEOPLE OR BELOW TURNING UP WITHOUT A BOOKING WE MAY ON OCCASION TURN YOU AWAY (ESPECIALLY WITH LARGE VANS OR TENTS). Whilst we do try and fit those on especially when we have our extra field do NOT presume guaranteed space on arrival with no prior contact- wet fields or just our need for a quieter weekend to enable farming commitments may result in you being turned away without a firm booking .Those on foot are guaranteed a pitch and those with smaller tents and vans are generally easily placed.

Electrical Hook Ups/Tie Ins
Chapel House Farm is a traditional camping environment, and DOES NOT  have electrical hook ups or tie-ins.

Location
Please can anyone unsure of the exact location of the site not rely exclusively on Sat Nav, as often this takes customers to the farmyard, a situation we want to avoid especially late at night . Please reference our map (click here) that will take you straight to the campsite gates . Thank you.

Dogs
Well behaved Dogs are allowed on site free of charge. . We expect owner supervision at all times.
No mess and no dogs running around off lead for prolonged times . Otherwise you may be asked to leave. PLEASE NOTE this is a working farm and working dogs will be off the lead in the farmyard and fields sometimes . If you have a problem with that then stay on the site and not through our farmyard or fields-Thankyou .
Under no circumstances are dogs to be left in the tent /van or tied up on site while owners are off-site
(Dogs are allowed in one area of the Langstrath inn).

Helpful Tips

Midgies and Other Insects

At some point in June Or July there can be midgies around dusk and dawn. Please bring along some repellent around these times for your own protection and to avoid an unnecessary irritant .

Local Shop/ Restaurants
There is a small shop in the village called The Flock Inn (Rosthwaite) which is a ten minute walk away. It sells basics (eggs, milk etc)  open  10am-5pm daily . The flock inn is also a small cafe selling local fayre and homemade cakes . There is outside seating for a coffee and your food. Other than this there are two supermarkets in Keswick and two pubs in the Village serving lunch and dinner. The Yew tree Inn is a new restaurant in Seatoller close by and The Langstrath Inn  is a close walk from the site serving Lunch and Dinner with both outside and inside seating.
(The Langstrath Inn is closed on a Monday BOOK AHEAD when possible for weekends) The youth hostel is also close by with a bar that serves food until 8pm and breakfasts please call them for  serving times in the morning . Glaramara is a local hotel also with  bar /food . THE SCAFELL HOTEL/RIVERSIDE BAR IS CLOSED FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE.

50p Coins
We have plenty of 50p coins , but please bring enough so as to avoid a situation where you are knocking at the farmhouse late at night. Many thanks. Once again you pay for camping on arrival with cash .

Gas Cannisters
We do not sell gas canisters for cooking, and in the past it has been problematic for people to purchase them in Keswick -so please bring your own.
Otherwise Keswick has many outdoors and camping shops for most anything else you forget.

Packed Lunches
We no longer provide a packed lunch service for coast to coast walkers contrary to any C-to-C guidebook that states otherwise. Sorry for any inconvenience.

What's Nearby?

If you know anything about The Lake District, you probably know that it is well known as one of the most unspoilt areas of natural beauty in England. There could hardly be a more striking example of this than the  Borrowdale Valley.

A diverse and fascinating environment, there are rolling hills, surging  streams & bluebell woods. There is also ancient protected woodland and the valley is one of the UK’s few surviving temperate rainforests. In all directions there are wild swimming spots. When exploring the surroundings there is a timeless air especially off the beaten track.

How to Book Your Pitch

If you’d like to book, just call or email us and we’ll reserve your space. (Six or more should book or call ahead)Alternatively, you can simply turn up and ask we generally have space but it is NOT guaranteed . Peak season weekends-especially warm ones are often full as we will not overcrowd. If we say no but you can see space it will be because bookings take priority and or campervans are out for the day. We are not obliged to take anyone and will point you to other sites if we are full

Please ensure you are familiarised with the REQUIRED READING section before emailing or calling as we are a working farm without an office. We expect that you know the price and all other pertinent information – Then you also know if this is the right site for you – Thanks for your cooperation.
